Working alongside the architect and client, Darklight Design was asked to create a lighting scheme in February 2014 for this residential project in Berkshire. Initially split into two properties, the current owners were undertaking a full refurbishment to combine it into a large family home. The main focus of the house is the stunning stairwell which runs centrally from the third floor to the basement. The equally stunning chandelier has been utilized to instill a strong visual link - positioning orbs of light at varying heights creates a central feature that is visible from all floors of the house. The simple but very effective recessed downlights were specified for the majority of the rooms, strategically positioned to highlight wall art and architectural features. Low level floor lighting and recessed uplighting was achieved with the Flexalighting Tera 6.
Darklight worked very closely with the landscape architect to implement a lighting scheme that complemented the exterior planting without overpowering the garden with light. Linear Light built into the nose of the stunning stone steps creates dramatic strips of warm light. The Flexalighting Tera 7 has been used to subtly up-light the house and the Air 6 floor-washes the paths. The overall lighting scheme successfully flows from inside to out and blends with the natural architecture of the house and garden.
