GIBRALTAR HOUSE

Berkshire, England, 2015
Lighting design: Darklight Design Studio

We became involved in this scheme through a recommendation of a local architect, Spratley Studios in Henley, Oxfordshire. The project was an extensive refurbishment  to the existing house plus a further extension to the house with fully landscaped gardens.
After our initial consultation with the client we proposed a scheme to them that offered them full flexibility both with the lighting and the lighting control. The client kindy provided us with an indication of furniture layout which enabled us to provide the light source where needed, with light onto artwork and sculptures as well as lights positioned over sofas for task lighting.
The Recessed Adjustable Down-light is used to great effect on this project, wall washing and picking out features within the various rooms. We have used the Double Recessed Down-light for task lighting over reading areas. In the wine cellar the client wanted a bit of fun so we have used the LED strip being controlled through DMX to allow hundreds of different colours.
The exterior has several different lighting circuits around the house and in the extensive grounds. The river front has been marked with mini Recessed Up-lights and the large trees have been illuminated with powerful floods. The scheme inside and out is controlled through the Lutron Homeworks System giving the client complete control over there lighting scheme.
Moving outside now, you can see how the Flexalighting Aloha 6 spike spots create drama as they cast shadows from the trees. Finally, a combination of Tera 6 and 7 recessed uplights serve to complete that impressive, showcasing effect.
